HOLYOKE CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY

WESTERN MASS DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONS 2008

Welcome to the Holyoke Catholic Girls' Cross Country Page!
Cross Country has been a sport at Holyoke Catholic since the 60's, but it was not until 1978 that girls came out to compete (thanks to the encouragement and support of then and now boys' coach Dan "rudy" Lengieza). With the support of Rudy, the girls' team grew in size, and Catholic soon established a strong cross country tradition, producing great teams and great individuals throughout the 80's. Owen Donahue, a former runner at Catholic, took over the coaching duties for the girls early in the 80's, and continued to guide them into the 90's. The early 90's saw the downslide of both the girls and boys XC programs, primarily because of a lack of interest in the sport and a lack of numbers. Tim Symington took over the girls' coaching duties in 1993, and by 1995 had the team back on its winning ways, as the Lady Gaels finished the 95 season with their best record in 6 years. Current coach John Goda inherited the program in 1996, and the Lady Gaels have since established themselves as one of the best teams in the area.
