Vs. Granby with South Hadley
(Friday, September 14th @ Whiting Reservoir. -- overcast, damp, 50-55 degrees)
HC 15, Granby 50
The Lady Gaels improved their season record to 3-0 with a victory over Granby High School. The team's top four runners followed Coach John Goda's race instructions perfectly, running relaxed and together for most of the race. Evelyn Powell broke from the pack to win her second straight race, but right behind her were Laura J., Rose, and Marissa, all running solid times in their first home meet of the season. Evelyn's winning time of 19:39 is her first time under the 20:00 mark at home, and Laura, Rose, and Marissa all could have been under the mark today. Vickie Cavanaugh ran a solid time of 20:57, and appears to be getting closer to the Lady Gaels' top four. Newcomer Bridget Barcomb, who last ran two years ago as a sophomore, ran a solid debut time as well, beating her own personal record from sophomore year by almost 30 seconds. Bridget's arrival should give the Lady Gaels a little more depth, something they will certainly need in the weeks to come. Four team members did not run today because of injuries, but they will all hopefully be returning to action soon.
